Why is it that after a trip to work or back approx.'
20 km either way, when turning the engine off and
then try to start the vehicle again the car won' t
start till the engine has cooled off

Hello! I am sorry to hear about your intermittent issues with the electrical ignition on your 96 Elantra. If the car will not start unless it is "cooled off", it is most like the ignition coil packs, located as part of the ignition switch. You may also just wish to inspect the coil pack and ignition switch to ensure that all of the wires/harnesses are in tact, and connected properly
