just did a rebuild on 1992 prelude h23a1. after getting back together, car started fine but smoked really bad, tore back down the engine to find damage to cylinder sleve. what wpuld cause this. is there a way to do cylinder sleve repair or do in need another block. Has anyone come across this problem on the h23a1?

Can you multiple things. Does it have a scar on the cylinder walls or is it cracked? Also if it is scared, you can have a machine shop bore the cylinder out and make it smooth again, but it will require you to get oversized pistons. If you trying to stay OEM recommend just getting another used block.

i rebuilt my lude about 4 months ago is has the jap spec h23A with a H23A1 head on it now but to answer your question you could have installed the rings wrong if you had the cylinders honed they could have done the wrong procedure on them they are metal fiber sleeves takes more tlc to hone the cylinders or you could had some dabree get in between the piston and cylinder walls during the rebuild and cause damage but autoimport is right inorder to stack with oem rings you are going to need a new block its going to be more costly to have it resleeved or bored
