Swapping engine from manual Altima to automatic Altima

Asked by PleaseHelpMeFast Sep 06, 2018 at 11:10 AM about the 2006 Nissan Altima 3.5 S

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I smashed the front of my 2006 Nissan Altima, it has a 3.5 and a manual
transmission. Replacing all the damaged parts would cost around $400 from
the local pick and pull (I called and asked prices). I found a 2006 Nissan Altima
on Craigslist for $300. The exterior and interior are clean and the title is also
clean. It has a 3.5 engine but is automatic. My question is, can I swap my
engine that runs into the $300 car with the engine that doesn't run. I think would
be straight forward but my concern is that since the engine is coming from a
maunal car and going into a automatic car that I might need a new wiring
harness and computer. Just to be clear, I only plan on swapping the engines,
not the transmissions. Thank you for your help!

Good question, but hard to answer. I would think the engines would be the same, but the computer programming would not. Computer programming would not be an issue as you would be using the ECU from the original car. I think there is a good chance of it being an easy swap, but there are no guarantees.

I did some investigating and the oil pans between automatic and manual are different as well as the engine mounts. Looks like the crankshafts are the same. You may have to do some part swapping engine to engine to get it to work.

I have a 2006 se-r Altima automatic tranny with low miles. Not slips nothing. Also still on the car so you can test it. Do you still have your manual trans.?
