Check kbb.com for a current value. A total loss is when it will cost more to fix the vehicle than it's worth on the retail market. Extras like an expensive stereo, new tires, or recent repairs don't factor into the value of the vehicle. Mileage and overall condition of the vehicle before the damage is what counts the most. Hope that helps! Jim

When a car's totaled, it's technically not worth anything. You'll get the "book" value from your insurer. If you really want to know, ask your insurer about how they calculate this and what it would be for your particular car. That might raise their suspicions, though.
