Transmission in '02 Tahoe

Asked by Jb Feb 01, 2016 at 12:41 AM about the 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe Z71 4WD

Question type: Car Customization

When I'm going slow (50MPH) in 5th gear
(automatic trans) and I'm on a slight incline, my
transmission kicks in to a lower gear, then goes
back to 5th, then kicks in to a lower gear and then
back to 5th over and over again. I can see my
RPM's going up and down and up and down as
though it can't decide where it wants to be. The
transmission works fine in any other situation but
not when I'm going slow in 5th on a small incline.
Does this make any sense? What's my problem?

Your tans only has 4 gears, what I thing your feeling is torque converter lockup. That's a sign of the torque converter going out. If it is going between 3rd and 4th it may be time for a rebuild. First thing is to check your fluid
