Rough idle

Asked by May 09, 2017 at 09:16 PM about the 2001 Ford Taurus SE Wagon

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Ok.  Vehicle dips below 1000 RPM at an idle.
Sounds really rough.  Just had an oil change and
topped off coolant.  No leaks that are "horrible".

Any leak is horrible.

Idle should be around 700rpm. If the throttle is surging, check for vacuum leaks, clean the throttle body and IAC with throttle body cleaner. Look on Utube on how to perform the cleaning and check for vacuum leaks.

The cooling system relies on it to be air tight & pressurized.
