Major Coolant Leak

Asked by SarahGrady Jun 18, 2018 at 01:20 PM about the 2002 Honda Accord LX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The other day, after driving 10 or so miles, I noticed my car overheating from
the gauge in the vehicle, and from either steam or smoke coming from under
the hood. I pulled over and immediately turned the car off. I popped the engine
and noticed a hissing noise. I saw an area that appeared wet, and noticed my
coolant reservoir was completely empty. I walked to the passenger side of my
vehicle and saw a TON of coolant all over the ground. I took the vehicle in to
be inspected and am being told it's a problem with my AC compressor, but
that's in a completely different area of the car than where the leak appeared to
be coming from. I'm also confused because this was NOT a slow leak. This
was a huge gush of coolant. Any idea what could be going on?

Most of you coolant hoses go to the motor just above the transmission. I would get it pressure tested and check all those hoses.

Hello. I am having the same issue and believe Jeff is correct. I recently replaced all belts, hoses, and reservoir for power steering. It sealed up, but leaking coolant from under the engine near front/compressor. Would it just be a line and what would I have done to cause this? Thanks! B. Wade

it's your hose that goes into the thermostat. I had a hole and this was the culprit. Good luck!
