RPM vs Speed

I own a 2016 Toyota Tacoma V6 TRD Off-Road 4 door. Is it normal for the V6
engine to rev above 4000 rpm when driving 60 mph or greater, uphill. I travel
uphill for approximately 45 minutes before the road flattens out.

I'm in Drive driving 60+mph uphill (about 7 degrees) and my engine is screaming @ +4000 rpm. This engine is the new 3.5L V6 Atkinson Cycle with Dual VVT-i 278 hp @ 6000rpm/265 lb-ft @ 4600rpm. Is there something I can add to reduce the rpm at 60+mph? I've ridden in other vehicles, not toyota's, at speeds higher than 65mph and the rpm is lower.
Good Morning. Just returned from Toyota Service Department. According to mechanic it is normal for the engine to rev up to 4K+ at 60+mph, because of the engine size. I also complained about: I hear a tapping sound, like engine valve tapping. Mechanic said that it is not the engine valve tapping. I'm not a car mechanic, so I didn't understand what he said. Maybe you can tell me what it is...so I can understand and not worry.
I hear the tapping sound when the engine is idling. I called back my dealership to speak to the mechanic. He hasn't called back yet.
4 grand at 60mph up most hills with a V6 is absurd. Even a 7% grade which is pretty steep should not require anything near that. On the flats I would hope your engine is not turning more than 2,000 rpm at 60.
So you suggest I go see a different mechanic from Toyota? Maybe for a second opinion?
Just bought used 2011 TRD sport V6 4x4 with LSD, same problem - it was in "4" not D, they are really close together. On way to work this AM, accidentally put into "4" which is just to the LEFT of D, ran close to 3000 rpm at 68 mph. After got home - looked at the dash was in $ and not D. Slight push to the right and it was fine. 75 mph, 2200rpm in 5th/OD in automatic
I think the 4K @ 60 on 7% grade is normal—just had the same experience in my 07 4Runner. You are likely in 3rd gear. I find I’m revving about 3k @ 70 in 4th and get better mileage—especially if you have a load and / or are pulling a trailer. I believe the auto shifting of the transmission is heated for smoothness and ease to the transmission itself rather than power or fuel efficiency. It feels like this engine’s wheelhouse is between 3k and 4K RPM.
