Do a complete brake pads, brake rotors, brake shoes, and brake drum inspection. Is there any squealing noise associated? Also make sure the brake master cylinder is full. Is the vehicle pulling to the left or the right when the brakes are applied? When you do a brake pad/brake shoe inspection, look to see if one pad is extremely worn compared the the other pad. If so, the brake caliper may need to be replaced. And if one brake shoe is worn more then the other, the brake wheel cylinder should be replaced. Note: Some vehicles have brake shoes/brake drum assemblies in the rear, with disc brake assemblies (brake pads/rotors) in the front. Some vehicles have disc brake assemblies in the rear & in the front. Check those for starters. Also if the brake master cylinder had at any time been very low, then brake fluid was added, there may be air trapped in the brake hydraulic fluid system, requiring the brake hydraulic fluid to be bled of trapped air. With trapped air in the brake hydraulic system, the brakes will feel kinda spongy and/or a chattering feeling when the brakes are applied.
