Question type: General

Put new battery in 2004 accord 2 weeks ago.  I live
in the Midwest and it has been cold, but the car will
not start if left outside the first time I crank it.  I
must turn the key off and try again.  Is the starter
going bad or could it be another electrical
problem?  Car cranks hard even in the summer.
Bought it used last July.

I would do a tune up first of all. If it gets really cold where you live, you may need to add an engine heater.

Under 83,xxxiles. Not really cold, even when it sits outside like today, it was in the 20's, started hard. Other than spark plugs, what would you recommend for a tune up?

Plugs, wires, fuel filter, oil & filter, air filter, pcv valve are all part of a complete tune up, especially since you are not the original owner so probably have no idea how well or often the car was serviced. You could possibly have a starter that is failing, or even a coil that is going bad, so start with the basics mentioned since they need to be done anyway and see what happens and take it from there.

Already did pcv, oil and filter, and air filter. Picked up some spark plugs today and will swap them out. Thanks for the recommendations.

Clean the battery terminals and cable ends.

Did that when I put the new battery, and put the anti corrosive spray on for a little insurance.
