2005 S2000 rear end noise

Asked by jes2644 Nov 09, 2008 at 10:40 PM about the 2005 Honda S2000 Roadster

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a grinding sound coming from the left side of the rear of the car when starting (at about 2K rpm) off in a left
turn.  Could this be early signs of differential failure?

Unlikely, I'd check the gear oil level before I started getting too freaked out over it. I would think it could possibly be an axle bearing since it's only on one side. Unless you've genuinely punished the car...I'd look for simple answers first.

Highly doubtful, Do you have aftermarket rims or anything done to the rear suspention. This sounds like you might have a loose or poorly aligned rearend thats rubbing.

WHAT????.....Did you read the symptom? Your answer makes no sense whatsoever. Going by the symptoms described, your suggestion is an improbability. Not only did you not read what he stated, you added a new issue that wasn't mentioned? He asked for help Jonathan; he was already confused.

haha why do people not read what people describe? its prob a wheel bearing like you said if it was the rear diff you would def feel it in the pedal or it would give at least a little vibration of the car in the rear.

In the S2000, when you drop it, there are spacers you should get for the rear end. If hes dropped it and not installed the spacers, there will be binding issues in the rear axles. Also, when dropping S2000s, you run into issues with the diff coming off center. I drive one with coilovers, I know what I'm talking about.

AGAIN...you're adding symptoms to his inquiry. He never said it was lowered.I too wonder why people add unnecessary data when the person asking the question has not? That distracts from the true issue.
