The rear view camera turns on when you put the car in reverse. There will be colored lines on the screen to help guide you. Best to read the owners manual!
If you really want to have a super desirable system, have rear proximity sensors installed to work in concert with the back up camera..they will alert you with an alarm whenever you get too close to an object.
