2001 Ford Expedition backfiring on start and on go?

Asked by 67Impala May 05, 2015 at 08:52 AM about the 2001 Ford Expedition XLT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Title says most of it.

When you start the truck it acts like its going to stall and backfires a few times. While
driving, (sometimes, not all the time) it will back fire some more when you step on the
gas. Won't pick up speed until it gets the backfiring done.

Have a mechanic friend who says he thinks the timing is off causing the cylinders to
misfire, and the truck owner's boyfriend says its fuel related because he doesn't like
me or my mechanic friend.

That said, fuel filter has been changed 3 times, and pump has been replaced.

Hoping if she reads some more opinions on the matter, that she'll be more open to
ignoring the idiot who wanted to WELD the WHEEL BEARINGS!

I take it the check engine light is not on? If it is, you should first get the codes read to avoid blind guesses. If no check engine light, I would first throw a timing light on it and check that first. If fuel pump and filter has been changed out, I would then start testing the injectors........................ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrqyrI5aNl0
