Replacing a blown 5.7 Liter Hemi

Asked by GuruTHDC6 May 30, 2022 at 12:20 PM about the 2015 RAM 1500 Tradesman Quad Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Does anyone have experiance with replacing a 2015 Ram
1500 4wd quad cab 5.7 Liter Hemi Engine with a 2013 Ram
1500 5.7 Liter hemi engine? My 2015 Hemi blew a main
camshaft bearing according to the dealer. They want
$15,000. For a replacement. I found a 2013 Ram 5.7 Liter
hemi at a salvage yard. I need to know what challenges I
might face replacing my 2015 with the 2013 engine. For
example will the wiring harness match up. Will I need to
also replace the 2015 computer module with the
replacement 2013 or will I need to reprogram my 2015
computer module. Or any other problems I may encounter?
Any knowledge will be appreciated! Thanks

How long before the junk yard motor goes ? There's no easy answer to your problem , even an identical engine would probably be a P.I.T.A.

Get a second opinion from a reputable independent shop. I bet they can do the job for half the price the Dealer wants and you can get a freshly rebuilt crate engine with a warranty. Another thing to consider is the vehicle is 7 years old now. How much longer do you plan on keeping it? How many miles are on the vehicle? The rest of the vehicle, (transmission, accessories, etc.) all have that much wear on them. Is it really worth replacing the engine? It may be, or it may be better to replace the vehicle. Hope that helps! Jim
