Can you help me with my maintenance question?

Asked by Jkelleysmith May 01, 2020 at 08:45 PM about the 2015 Toyota 4Runner Limited 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I’m crying as I’m writing this, please help.
Have a 2015 4Runner Limited with 47000
miles. To date, I have the brakes and rotors
replaced. When I got the vehicle back I took it
back as the brakes were not working like they
did. Ended up taking it to another guy who
charged me $500 to clean up and lube what
the dealer neglected to do and said the truck
was fine. At this point I’ve spent $2500, have
new brakes rotors and my gas mileage has
dropped to 11mpg and smells of smoke. Took
it back I needed new calipers, another $1000.
Brakes still squeak I don’t care. Got the airbag
replaced due to recall. Now the ABS, Brake
and Trac lights are on. I had my last 4Runner
for 15 years, at this point I just want to take
care of the problems and get rid of it. Help
please.

You're getting ripped off. So far you've paid for new calipers, brake pads, rotors, did they bother to replace the brake hoses as well? (those are the flexible brake lines that run to the caliper.) Brake hoses can degrade and prevent brake fluid from fully returning to the master cylinder, causing the brakes to drag. The ABS system also requires a special scan tool to properly bleed the air out, which many small shops or individual mechanics may not own. If all this work was done by a dealership then they owe it to you to make it right, and you'll have to keep on them until they do. You've spent $3,500 on a brake job, that's just nuts.
