start problem

Asked by smokethepig Jun 23, 2014 at 10:57 PM about the 1997 GMC Suburban K1500 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

997 gmc suburban. fully charged battery. Turn key to start, nothing. No click no starter noise, nothing at all.Accessory bypass switch is working. All cables are tight. Do I have an ignition switch problem, relay/starter problem? This is an intermittent problem, and gmc dealer has not been able to diagnose because after the vehicle sits over nite, or really cools off,it will start. My gut tells me it is heat related. What's up?

Sounds like you need a starter bud, have some one hold the key on and lightly tap the starter with a small hammer ,if it starts to crank ,thats a sign of a bad starter ,or yo could use a test light to check power on the ign side of starter ,test light will light up but you will need someone to hold the key on the on position in order to do this test, if your starter is weak , Good luck hope this helps you .
