Engine won't start but auxiliary power is on
This morning I went to get in my 2015 Ford Explorer
but as I pushed the start button nothing happened.
After deciding the battery might be dead we
decided to jump the car. As soon as the jumper car
engine turned on the headlights and auxiliary power
turned on as if the engine were running. I tried
starting the engine while the jumper cables were
connected but nothing happened. However, the car
honked at me telling me that the key is getting too
far away to continue running the engine when I got
out to check the hood (again, I have a push start so
it has to stay within close range to operate). The
dashboard doesn't completely turn on until the
engine is started, for example when I get in the car
with my key the radio screen with flash the ford logo
and the dash will normally give me instructions to
push the brake and the start button. Right now, the
entire dash is lit as if the engine is running which I
believe is killing the battery. Has anyone ever heard
of anything like this? Recommendations?
I will start by replacing the key battery, and see what happened.
After you replace the key battery. close all doors with windows up, lock and unlock the vehicle using your key fob. Repeat the process about 3 or 4 times and try to start the vehicle. good luck.
Did you ever figure this out? I’m having the exact same issue today.
I have similar problems-= 2015 Explorer Sport--replaced the fob battery and less of a problem--I get intermittent notice that key is not detected----sometimes I turn it off the engine shuts off but not the accessories--have to restart and then turn it off again. Sometimes when it wont start I sit in the car and use the remote start feature--that has always started it...and Oh yeah the power seat/mirror memory is screwy--sometime I get back in the car--seats not where they were when I got out--mirrors also not in place and hiring the button for seat to go back to programmed spot won't work so i have to reset everything---this is my third explorer-- first with all the electrical bells and whistles--it sucks--should have bought the Durango!
Same thing happened to me -- this worked... Owners Manual (in my 2015 edition) page 188 - Ignition modes: "When All electrical circuits are operational, Warning lamps and and indicators are illuminated: applying the brake pedal, press and release the Start Button once from accessory mode. Next, applying the brake pedal, press and release the Start Button twice from the off mode. Now press the brake pedal and press the Start Button and the engine starts.
