How to know what year and type engine has been put into a used 99 Gmc k1500 Suburban

I naught a 99 GMC Suburban
with a swapped in v8 . I want
to take it down and build it up
for more performance but I
need to identify what it is for
parts ect...

on the cylinder head usually rh head there will be embossed letters and numbers , those will indicate the year of the block and maybe what it came out of .Call your local GM parts store once you find those numbers and letters , let the guy get back to you (trust me i do this as well for a GM dealer) he should be able to figure out what year the block is and about what it came out of.
