I've fixed mine by pressing the latch button on the trunk while opening it manually with the key Note:close it manually first

Spray some wd40 on the latch and it closes, just a temporary fix though. I would order the replacement to be safe. There's a video online on how to replace it

I could hear the latch operating but wouldn't release the lid. After openiing with the key I took the cover loose (phillips heafd screws), after observing what the latch was doing I took the plastic cover off the latch, closed the trunk and then it released. I could have left the cover off but wanted to put it back on. What I discovered was that somehow the plastic cover had been pushed up a little too far and that prevented the latch lever from operating. I cut the nottch for the lock/unlock lever a little more and that fixed the problem.
