It's a solid car with a proven track record. The Mk1 golf was introduced in 1974 and has been perfected over that time. We are now on the Mk7 variants. If you loved the beetle and van - then the Tiguan is the perfect blend of fun and practicality. The towing capacity is it's one limitation in the United States - in Europe it is widely used to tow caravan's and the like - over here it has been poorly categorized and only allowed to tow an 8' U-haul trailer. Having said that, it tows admirably and if you can find an example with a towing hitch installed it is a bargain. This year they came out with a fitted tent that can be attached to the tailgate, with the gate raised. It is a rugged vehicle for camping and touring alike. Perhaps the neatest thing is the high resale value. Yes, you can find low mileage certified ex-lease examples, but hold onto it and it retains excellent value. I can personally recommend Mount Prospect VW in Illinois if you want a great experience - I have bought 3 used vehicles from them in the past 3 years. Good luck and have fun !
