What is the Bubble on top / center of the dash on my 2002 Ford Excursion 7.3 XLT for?

I've never seen a light or glow emanate from the 1" bubble located center / top nearer to
the windshield.  ??

that is the sensor if your vehicle is equipped with headlights that turn on when it get dark outside.
