Key wont come back from lock position 2005 envoy gmc

Asked by GuruQ8RDS Nov 22, 2019 at 11:05 AM about the 2005 GMC Envoy 4 Dr SLT 4WD SUV

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Went to turn off envoy it will not go back to lock position
Key was stuck not now . Replaced the inigition still doing
Same thing.

There's a solenoid that holds the key in when the engine is running and transmission is in gear. Either the solenoid or something in that system is defective

I had this problem also. There is a micro switch at the bottom of the shifter. Too many spills made it sticky. Take the console apart and clean the micro switch. This cured my problem for years...
