Oil consumption

Asked by ra13137 Feb 16, 2016 at 11:22 PM about the 2014 Ford Focus S

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Car has 22000 mi.  At about 2200 mi. after service the oil pressure light
flickers and oil must be added. This seems to me to be excessive oil
consumption. I see no signs of smoke or leaks. What is considered "normal"
oil use for a 2.0 ford motor?

As a former Ford Service Manager I know Ford considers anything under one quart of oil use per 900 miles to be normal. I know its crap, but that is their specs

terrible fact, but with the high mileage comes oil consumption...my wife's own Prius which still gets near 50 mpg has 200,000 miles and drinks a quart every 500 miles~ but still works good~

Oil that is too thin causes oil burning. Switching to a 0w-30 will solve the problem
