2014 Subaru Legacy stalled while driving

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought a used 2014 Subaru Legacy about a week
ago from a Chevrolet dealer. It has about 59,500
miles on it. No problems until today when it stalled
while I was driving/braking. I’m wondering what the
issue could be - I know potentially the fuel filter or
the mass airflow sensor being dirty can cause
stalls. But it seems early for the filter. I was also
reading that the CVT could be the problem. Any
advice you have would be helpful!

It's overwhelmingly likely that the CVT's valve body solenoid is defective, preventing de- clutching upon stopping. Part assy is $700 + 2hrs labor, as no one wants to solder anymore.

Thanks for responding Ernest - the stall happened when braking while I was still going 25- 30mph. We actually took the car into a Subaru dealership today after learning about the extended warranty on the CVT. Turns out it's the torque converter. I think a few people earlier in the thread have had the same issue!

bought a new 2021 legacy it has 3k miles on it and it stalled while driving 65 mph on the freeway...
