Upgrade engine and transmission for a 1940 Chevrolet Special Deluxe

I'm looking to upgrade my 1940 Chevrolet Special Deluxe
engine and transmission.  Any ideas on what type I need ?  
Looking to make this a driver car.

If you want the same thing as everyone else put a small block Chevy in it. Hot rodding the original engine would be cool and would make the car more valuable in the long run.
