Shifting on Nissan versa

My Nissan Versa does not want to shift but if
I decelerate and then accelerate it will work I
read that if I shift to neutral and then back to
drive that should fix the problem. Is that
correct and should I do that when I am in a
lower speed while driving and will that fix the
problem it will I need to continually do that
when I drive
