Possible damage

Asked by Bryan_M98 Oct 02, 2018 at 05:51 AM about the 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have found a 2011 wrx for sale and am really
keen on the idea of purchasing it, however, I
currently own a 2010 impreza 2.0R and
encountered a costly differential repair. I just want
to know if anyone knows what I could look for in
the new car to make sure I don't experience the
same fate. Thank you

It all depends on what caused the differential to fail prematurely. Most diffs last the life of the vehicle. So if you ran it dry, that will destroy any and all differentials as gears need lubrication. But if that model has a bad reputation, I would stay away from having another one. And the WRX is a pretty fast car. Someone may have run the heck out of it already.
