Ford Taurus annoying chirp from engine?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Another question for cargurus  I have a Taurus 3.0 dohc 2003, with a "chirp" noise from under the hood. It is very regular in occurance. "Check engine" light on too but I don't have scans yet. Engine has 120,000 miles on it. Runs good otherwise.

The chirp might be an idler wheel bearing going bad or maybe just the serpentine belt.

Camshaft position sensor and/or synchronizer. The sensor itself may still be good, but the synchronizer is rubbing and causing that squeak. It is a well-known noise for this engine. To replace the synchronizer is a challenge, it's supposed to take a special tool only available from Ford to align it. But if you check Youtube for DIY videos, you'll see how to replace it without the tool. I had been quoated somewhere around $1,000 by a dealership to replace one on my Taurus, instead did it myself with some help from a mechanic friend. Parts aren't that expensive. A good mechanic shop should also be able to replace one for a lot less that a dealer.
