Can I put my 1991 AWD TSI engine into a 1994 2 WD

Asked by Dej59 Jun 13, 2013 at 09:31 PM about the 1991 Eagle Talon TSi Turbo AWD

Question type: Car Customization

I have a 1991 TSI AWD with 35000 KMs and the body is shot. I have found a great 2 WD body with the engine gone so I am wondering if I can swap the engines?

alright you could put the awd engine in the 2wd body but you will need a transmission thats compatible with the engine . you could keep the original tranny but you might need to change the rear axle because a 2wd axle can not handle a awd trany and engine. your beter of finding a car that has the same body style and make as the one you that is shot.

you should be able to pull all of the awd components out of your poor body tsi and install it in your 2wd car. the 4g63 motor is a great motor, those dsm cars were designed in a special facility and i believe that all of the bodies were the same regardless of 2wd of awd configuration. It would have cost more to make two separate shells for something as trivial as 2wd or awd.
