How to troubleshoot a fuel issue

Asked by DubidubiGuru Jul 29, 2020 at 11:24 AM about the 1989 Ford F-150 STD Standard Cab 4WD LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We have a 1989 Ford F 150 that's sat for a yr & then was
given to us.  We can got it to turn over a few times by
spraying starter fluid directly in to the intake but it won't
stay running.  Help! What should we try from here?  Before
having to guess which fuel pump (there's 3) it might be.

Check for fuel pressure at the test port. If you have zero try to jump fuel pump relay and listen for fuel pumps. If you have pressure check for injector pulse.
