Engine miss

Asked by NoahBeck2356 Oct 13, 2015 at 09:43 AM about the 1988 Ford F-150 S Standard Cab 4WD SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I've got a 1988 Ford F150 with a 302
engine in it and I have a spark plug
that's not firing because it's getting
to much fuel, it's the third one back
on the passenger side and you only
notice it's missing once you get
going around 45mph-50 and after a
while it'll start loosing more power
and will die out but will start again a
few seconds later I was told it was a
valve or spring issue... Was
wondering how expensive the part
would be and if it would become
more of a problem or no, it has a
nonfouler in it at the moment but
that's only a temporary fix... Thanks
in advance

I think what you should do first is a compression test of that cylinder, if it is low then do a wet test (squirt a LITTLE OIL ) in the cylinder to see if the compresion goes up, if it does its not the valves, then i would do a sparkplug and wire to see if it clears up, there is a reason why the plug is fouling out, you need to determine that

Ford engines can be picky at times when it comes to spark plug wires. Check the net and determine the proper resistance of the wires in ohms per foot. Measure the length of the wire and in feet and percentage thereof, then multiply by the recommended resistance. Use an ohm meter to measure the resistance of the wire. If out of tolerance - replace.

I've checked the compression and it's good... And it's got the plugs/wires the dealer told me to get when I called for a few other parts(non related to engine) any other ideas?
