2014 Chevy Spark wont start all the time

hard to fix something when it doesnt do it...so does it do that when its hot or cold or what?

When its cold my husband said it didn't start when he was leaving for work one morning and one evening coming home he jiggled with it and got it started but we need a dependable car and the dealership can't seem to figure it out because like I said it wont do it for them. My husband drives it 50+ miles a day to work and back it just started happening a couple of weeks ago.

Are u still having these problems mine does the same thing ! I can't figure it out either ?????? Super nervous about this car

no not anymore we took It to the dealer and it never happened again and didn't happen there have no idea of why that happened.

Hint:Try BOTH keys. If the 3 volt button battery goes dead in the key/door opener, it will NOT let you start the car.

My car does it all the time. Finally got the dealer to see it. They replaced the battery and now it's worse. Taking it back in today. I love this car, otherwise. And I don't always trust the dealerships.

Have you gotten the no-start issue solved? Mine is doing the same thing. I replaced the battery and this did not fix it. When you get yours fixed please let me know what they did to fix it. Mine is out of warranty.

Did any find the problem why Chevy spark won't crank?

2014 Spark with same problem. Got my computer out with a GM scan doggle and during a no crank instance I was not able to commuicate with the Spark computer (ECM). Had Chevrolet dealer change out ECM and told him to reprogram all other modules. That fixed the no start issue. Next day radio quit working. He did not reprogram all modules as I asked and had to reprogram the radio. It went into theft mode when did not match OEM ECM

i ended on this page when my spark did not start. The start motor wat turing but the engine did not start. Therefore I thought that it was a motor problem. However the red indicator light of starter breaker was also light during the start. so i read about the chip in the key that did not match. I thought my car was pretty cheap however my key also has a chip. There was a small magnet befor this chip. Trobling the chip in the key. I used this magnet to hang my key on the radiator at home.

Check its battery and spark plug, if Chevy spark starts sometimes and sometimes fail, check on the right side of the bonnet, you will find black box , it has relays (like fuses ) in it, exchange the larger ones among them ,or change them , and then try again starting , iam pretty sure this will work.

Hello Kartik, thank you for your answer! You're on the right track. The dealership told me that I had a dry battery cell, so I had to buy a new battery since it wasn't covered on my warranty. But the next day the car wouldn't start so I had it towed to the dealership. The replaced the wiring from inside the steering column, the starter, and the plugs. The car has been running great ever since. I feel that there was nothing wrong with my old battery and had to wait for a few days while they tried to locate my old one. I feel that the one the finally came up with wasn't my original one but I couldn't prove it so I was out the money spent for that. I've read that a few other cars of my make and year have had these issues so I'm glad you wrote back. Someone else will surely be able to use all of this information! The Spark is a great car and I'm really happy about the choice I made in buying it. My best to you..

I bought my car used 2015 spark one day it just wouldn't crank we jump started it then went to auto advanced to found out alternator is over chanrged the battery so we trying to replace hopefully this will work

We were trying to replace it ourselves but couldn't getbtobthe alternator so ended jumped start the car and drove it to the shope then the machanic said the alternator is too new to be replace he will check the car see what actually wrong with it first, will update

Mine is doing the same thing. Replaced alternator 2 days ago. Won't start today. 2014 Chevy NO Spark!

Same problem but car is dead (no light in instrument panel). Also, check engine light on. Clutch sensor fault. Replaced sensor. Engine light stays on. Meanwhile, engine still doesn't start randomly. To start the car I have to push the car, engage the clutch to turn the engine and then the dash lights come on and the car starts. I can always get it to start this way.

It seems to happen randomly i have pop a lock come give me a Charge battery he thought it was it but my battery is great he said something is causing it now i am hereing a whistling sound when i let go of the gas peddle it sound a bit louder the engine

Finally my 2013 spark did not start at the dealer. After a year of misdiagnosis, they were able to trace it to a module in the ignition switch. Replaced the ignition switch

Today I used a volt tester on the battery and each terminal and battery cable, my results showed only 4v coming through the right "ground" cable. Instead of buying a new cable I put a small wooden wedge in between the right cable and the battery so the cable would be in contact after that mine read 13v through the right cable and started on the second turn.

My daughters Spark had a dead battery, she took the cart to autozone and they replaced the battery that was under warranty. By the next day the battery was dead again. She had the car towed to an auto shop, they replaced the alternator. The car will not start. What is up with car? A couple of years ago, my daughter was traveling out of town, she was driving at highway speed and the car just died. She had it towing to a Chevy dealer, where it took them several days to fix the problem. After than incident, she had not had an issue with her Spark until now.

I have a 2014 spark EV and I got a message saying battery saver active. When I start it all the instruments and lights and radio come but when I go to shift it to drive it wont go.

Have had my Spark for 4 years, and each year when it gets past 40 degrees F, the car loses it's charge. 1st time - dealer jumped it, said no problem with battery 2nd time - dealer jumped it again, said no problem, 3rd time - jumped it and replaced the battery, 4th time - now - could be alternator, and having the darn thing towed. It's no longer under warranty. From what I am reading on here, people have replaced the alternator and still had the same issue. Pretty ticked b/c just finished paying it all off. What a crappy 'investment.' Sounds like there needs to be a recall on the electrical system. Who is with me?

Chevrolet spark won’t start from cold ________________________________________ I have a Chevrolet Spark, 2013, 1.0 Petrol with 13,000 miles on it. Just this week, as the cold weather starts, my car intermittently won’t start. It turns over, and eventually starts. Once started and warm, its ok. I see lots of posts online for similar issues, but none shows a definite fix. Lots of battery swaps, alternator and plugs, even talk of keys but all have swapped lots of parts without confidence. I have had the battery tested and its ok, dug out the second key, although key doesn’t make sense if its only from cold. There are so many posts online ref this issue, yet nobody has a fix. Any help would be good. Never liked this car, especially once they withdraw from the UK market

Just wanted to add to this. My 2013 Spark is doing the same thing. Odd thing is I have success (intermittent) when I REMOVE (!?!??!!) the battery from the fob. I now hate this car.

Hi @Matt already solve the problem??? I remove the battery and 5 min after go it back, and now not work !!!! :S Lights on display, i install a new battery, and the chevy spark not start. Please help me !!!!

My 2014 Spark would not start yesterday, Since it was a manual I was able to push start the car and complete my trip. The car has started fine on a couple tries since not starting. Prior to the failure, the emergency flashers came on when starting the car and once traction control was turned off. Any ideas?

@usBrowns My 2013 Spark started having issues the same way. Prior to fail, the Hazard lights would be on and Traction control would be off every time you would start the car. You could turn them off and everything was fine. The car failed to crank. Then started after 30 sec. Drove it home. tried to recreate the issue and it worked fine for about 5 starts. After that it failed to crank and now will not crank. All lights work and battery is fine. Email me if you find out anything k3vinsuarez@gmail.com

@Anna My issue was a weak battery. After I put in a new battery everything has been fine.

This is software problem. If you not driving for long time, and the battery is not charged in full self discharging will drop the voltage. The battery is not charging all the time for better gas mileage. When you start the car push rear window heater button and the alternator will charge the battery for 14.5 V. I have voltmeter and see the difference. Even in cold weather I have no problem.

My 2013 Chevy Spark got a new battery less then a month ago. Today, I turned the key and nothing happened. After 3 trys it started right up. Any ideas what is causeing this???

Hi suggestion I watched Scotty Wilken's stuff on how to Fix cars & also Googled faulty feul pumps & how to clear faulty engine codes Basic's there must be spark & feul!! I replaced the coil pack & plugs & leads, then put in a brand new feul filter & pump inside the tank, then removed the feul rail & flush it & the injectors, all the "scanning" u can do will not show a clogged feul filter Good Luck!!

I'm hoping through the same problem. Initially thought it was the battery after replacing the battery it wouldn't start after a few days. My boyfriend used a multireader and found something was pulling battery while the car was off. After checking the fuses he disconnected the starter and found that's what's causing the draw. We're going to replace the starter and hopefully that will fix it.

I put a battery shut off on($9 at Amazon). When car doesn’t stat, I disconnect and then reconnect the battery. It’s like rebooting the computer. Works every time.

I'm having problem with my '14 chevy spark, I have a reduced power light on. I have had to change the battery 2 times, I also changed my throttle body, ignition switch, and the starter and engine relays. The light and radio come on but it wont crank/start. When I move the relays around a different light comes on, its a traction control light. This all started when I had to change the battery the first time when I had to have my head gasket changed. They also had to replace a header. I'm starting to think it might be the whole fuse box... Anyone have any ideas?

For me it was my back windshield, it would try to start in off position, it was draining the battery.
