Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 with 16,000 miles oil pressure is 100 psi at
startup. I just had it in the shop for 4 days, went to pick it up, started it and
oil pressure was 92 psi. The mechanic supervisor assured me that this was
normal at cold start up and the oil pressure does drop to around 40 psi
after 5 miles of driving and 30 psi after a 10 mile trip and idling at home.
But I have worked with 200 P compressor engines that only hit 60 psi at
cold start. Is anyone having similar issues.

Tennis shoes,---------thank you! This eases my mind. The service manager said the technician did put a gauge on the vehicle and pressure read normal. The service manager and his supervisor signed off on it and said the sensor/sender was functioning properly and that this was due to the cold engine.Obviously, after the info you provided, they were wrong. I went out for a drive today and pressure never dropped below 75 psi until I returned home and parked. Then it read 31 psi at idle. Thanks again.

Tennis shoes,---------thank you! I will investigate installing a manual pressure gauge. I really need that peace of mind. Enjoy your holidays!

Update to my original complaint. I put the Jeep in shop for oil change and tire rotation plus check engine light was on. Service Manager called and said i needed a new oil pressure sensor @ $450 total parts and labor. I told him about my 4 day adventure with the technician putting a gauge on the manifold. They contacted Chrysler and the work was done at no charge. The moral is DOCUMENT everything! Thanks for your help guys!
