1991/1995 dodge dakota 2 wheel drive

Asked by Koreana Feb 16, 2023 at 08:33 AM about the 1991 Dodge Dakota RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 91 dakota 2.5 manual drive transmission with blown head beyond
repair, but I also have 95 dakota 3.9 automatic transmission which is going out.
Would it be possible to take the 3.9 and put in place of the 2.5 making my 4
cylinder a 6 cylinder straight drive, both are 2 wheel drive

First of all you're replacing an old worn drive train with an old worn drive train , also much of the wiring and computer would have to be retro fitted , can it be done ? Yes , Is it worth the time and $$$ Probably not

It can be done but your looking at a lot of electronic work, exhaust system, you need everything electronic from the 95 wired into the 91 body. You might also need the fuel tank as the fuel pumps will be different. You will also need a flywheel for the 3.9 as it will only have a flex plate for the automatic. And possibly a 3.9 bell housing as I can’t remember if the standard transmission that is stick will fit the 3.9 engine. It’s not going to be easy.
