Hi All I know I'm years late but I thought I would post anyway. I have a 2014 Crosstrek and was experiencing the same problem where the rear passenger door wouldn't open from the inside, regardless of what I did. Opened from the outside fine every time. MY SIMPLE FIX - I uploaded the picture I took so and will just describe it best I can. Open the door from the outside and look at the inside bare metal portion of the door. What you're looking for is the stamped word "LOCK" along with an arrow pointing down. Beside this stamp in the metal, there should be a small peanut shaped opening with a little latch. If the latch is down in the direction of the arrow, switch it back the other way (to unlock). Then go test whether your door will now open from the inside. It worked for me. Good luck!
