I need help with timing mark on my 1986 porshe 928s 5.0

Im checking my timing marks on my 86 928s
porshe 5.0.removed number 1 plug stuffed a rag in
it tapped the motor till it popped..checked my cam
marks, both cam marks are on the mark but my
crank markings are not at the point mark not even
seen...crank markings are at the bottom but the
motor runs..how can it be.how do I set all my
marks without hitting the valves..how can I turn
the motor without causing damage and to remove
my belt with seeing no marks..totally off..I need
major help with this issue please tell me where to
start.....Thanks... Anthony

we've got a picture at least, them other two videos were crappy, this picture's only kinda crappy still looking for a basic configuration now~

Hey Mark that pic is for 4.5 single overhead, mine is 5.0 double overhead cam...you have any pics on that motor....

Thanks Mark...just need to know how to reset my timing from start if crank is totally off...where to turn the motor so I can set my cam marks with belt off not making contact with valves...thanks again

double overhead (actually H sideways head) makes four extra things driven by the belt...if it's like most DOHC there is going to be pin holes that you can fit your pin punches (or if a hillbilly penny nails) into double overside H configuration is a tough act to follow~ I'll pump your numbers up as much as I can, buddy~

there has to be a sticker, or label when you order your new replacement belt what shows the configuration...yes I'm quite sure there are "cheats" that an experienced Porsche mechanic knows all about, just follow the label or cardboard insert~ thank you for this education, nice to know that a friggin' five liter engine (bigger than a Jeep) is drivin' a sports car....mullholland drive.....hwy 1? get good tires~

you can call judge_roy Mark if it makes you feel good am known as bob_nueske for my first 2000 points then the hangin' judge (rub of the brush) roy~

If this dont work im getting rid of it buy myself a vette....at least I know more about it...just tried to be different knowing you dont see these porshes around....

still let's look at the replacement timing belt for funzies~ no luck--- but~Summary: A living, breathing, loyal warrior of a dying breed Faults: The 1985 Porsche 928S is truly, PERFECT artwork in motion or standing still. Do not purchase one of these highly advanced & prestigious creations of automotive history if you have to worry about an expense of any type. The 928S is exactly that.. A perfect automotive creation built between 30 and 12 years ago (respectively), by the highest regarded German engineers & craftsmen in the world... And what they made was TRUE perfection! Enter the Porsche 928S 32V automotive masterpiece. Any and all automobiles will have issues & problems, especially 12 to 30 year old super cars due mainly to the owner's enthusiasm or lack there of. Records of service & preventative maintenance, as well as vehicle history, are essential to purchasing one of these machines. Parts are expensive, but you will barely need them as long as you do what is required. Finally, the true key to these phenomenal machines is your decision of who will do the necessary work when these infrequent times occur. So nobody can answer this guy ? and the only solution is to purchase a Corvette Let me ask you this if the car is running what makes you think its out of time also if the came marking are aligned and the cranck is a 180 ° out then the engine is a 180°out

First it doesnt have the balls like a 928 should have...idle is erratic, blows out rich smelly exhaust, plus when you give it some heavy gas, it blows out smoke.. I know how these cars are suppose to run..not like this...I checked timing marks, upper cams are in time, crank cant see marks..all im asking is, does anybody know how to put the marks back in time...and how can I do so when the crank is out like this, where and how do I start...

@Michael, spent all day long trying to find the timing marks on a 5.0 DOHC porsche engine...good luck, you act like we ain't doin' nothin'~ got a source for this information then share it, else stop yer bellyachin'~

This motor is a valve Bender anything more then a few teeth out of time it sound like you have fuel problem pressure regulator or mas meter fnup

Me too..normally I would get it but this one is difficult. ..thank you for helping me

that would be the heart of your fuel injection system...volvo and nissan used them...they are quite advanced for their time--the complicated injectors would let you know~ if you look up a jetronic injector you'll see, or just look at your own....can't think what Porsche decided to stop using the jetronic in lieu of high pressure systems...perhaps in 1988 when high pressure fuel spray could be dealt with safely~

wonky solenoid as fuel control....had not the pulse mastery of the 2000's---hard to find guys who know about these----examine the 26 parts and think to yourself "what does this part do?"....still not sure, though it's been explained by experts....jeesh what we doing? regulating air for the fuel injectors...under varying conditions....not rocket science...reminds me of a new work timeclock where five engineers were gathered around and not one could make it start punchin' the time cards.....quelle gachis?

Does this not have an "alignment holes" at one of the cam shaft bearing supports each camshaft so you can pin punch align them, put the belt on then remember to pull them out...dealt with DOHC engines a couple of times and learned from my co-workers on how to do stuff~

Thanks to all of you that helped me with my timing problem,ive found the problem after a long time of diagnoses and with your help...my balancer was installed the wrong way prior to when I bought the car, the owner had the timing belt done, and the idiot timed the motor after top dead center striking2 valves...so I removed the both heads and had to replace all valves to be 100 percent...and new timing belt again, new pump and upgraded the tentioner assembly...car is an animal now on the highway and eating up vettes and mustangs when there playing with me by reving up there motors...so again thank you all for helping me..my porshe has woken up from the grave...
