2013 F150 rear suspension sag when towing

Asked by justhavnfunwp Mar 17, 2014 at 08:19 AM about the 2013 Ford F-150 XLT SuperCrew 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2013 F150 4x4 4door that came with the 3" leveling kit and larger tires/rims new off the lot.  The problem that I am having is that when I tow a boat-small or large the rear tends to sag a bit more that I would like it to.  I was considering adding a Hellwig system to beef up the suspension a bit to prevent the sag.  Would you recommend that or another system?

They work, they're cheap and can be installed easily. I have helpers on my '92 GMC and for some reason someone put helpers on my 1978 3/4 ton Jimmy before I bought it. The issue is they make your truck ride rough. Air bags reduce this if you air down after hauling but cost more, are harder to install and require more maintenance.

with a f150 your going to sag no matter what with any sort of load. From the factory the back should have sat a little higher to compensate for the sag it will get with a load. After the leveling kit the truck now sits nice a flush unloaded. Make sure you have the proper drop hitch to keep the trailer angled right, that will help alot. Any sort of add-a-leaf or helper spring will help with a sag, but like stated before it will make the ride a little more rough when unloaded

Agreed with Andrew, but all fords in the F150 line have always had a towing problem! Other than the proper hitch the rear is going to sag and the front will float and feel as though you have no steering! You could get some air bags to put on the rear but they can get pricey quick!
