Any knowledge on older cars?

my.toyota Tercel starts and runs good but won't go
over 40 mph need some insight and see if it's
worth the fix anybody have knowledge about older
cars?

No warning lights on and I recently brought it to 2 auto stores and they tell me there is no way to hook it up to there machine
