Converting 2wd to 4wd

I have a 1991 d21 4 cylinder 5-speed
four-wheel drive I blew the
transmission I cannot find a four-wheel
drive transmission but there are two-
wheel drive transmissions available
could I pull one of the two-wheel drive
transmissions and convert it with the
parts I have into a four-wheel drive
transmission

You could convert it if you really want to but why not rebuild the transmission instead of ruining a 4x4?
