Make sure the fuel cap is tight and don't worry about it unless the light comes back on.

HI Kelley. The same thing happened to me. I filled the tank, tightened the cap until it clicked once. While driving, it came loose. The engine light came on. I read the owners manual, Checked the gas cap and realized it had loosened. I tightened it until it clicked twice. After 10 days with the engine light on, I went to the FIAT dealership. The technician said it can take up to 14 days for the computer to determine the gas/air mixture has stabilized from the cap being tightened properly. Sure enough, day 12, the engine light went off. Now I make it a habit to tighten the gas cap until it clicks twice! No problems since. Car runs well. Hope this helps. Jerry

My god.. this is the most annoying thing... my gas cap is "always coming loose" even know I turn it 17 effing clicks... the light stays off for 2 weeks, and then it comes back on again. Then, after tightening it, the light inexplicably stays on. The technicians say "it's a loose gas cap"... with no solution.

I refilled my gas tank yesterday. Here in NJ pretty much all gas is pumped by an attendant. I did notice that he didn't turn the cap to hear a click. I guess this is why my check engine light came on. I suppose I'll tighten the cap and then wait 2 weeks before doing anything more.

I have a 500x. My light has come on 4 times in 3 months. A different issue was found wrong each time. Trip back for repairs too. I am at 47k miles/3 yrs old. It is getting ridiculous and stressful. I have no gas cap for my car - doesn’t come with it. I so am not happy. I had 2 messages pop up this time. I love my car but now I am scared to drive it.

Gas cap good hack from a friend Eric. Vasaline/petroleum oil rub it around the plastic cap because the gas dries out the plastic this creates a seal. Is working for me..Best wishes

Engine light was, indeed, an air-petrol mix issue. Filled tank, well, to fill, but also to displace air. Made sure to turn gas cap several clicks beyond closed. Drove for less than 5 mins. Engine light gone. Thank you for all the hip tips here.

I have a Fiat 500 diesel. The engine light is waiting for me. It is constantly lit. How to clean it? Manually. Is there a way?
