2013 Equinox Paint Chipping

Asked by Anna Feb 27, 2023 at 01:34 AM about the 2013 Chevrolet Equinox LS FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2013 Chevy equinox has paint peeling all the
way down to the wrong metal on three different
panels on one side of the car. I see many people
have had the same problem and it’s a factory
defect. What can be done about it?

There may be a recall and you may have to search for them but I wouldn't count on it . Watch some U-TOOB videos on painting touch ups a car before rust sets in , you can get a small can of matching paint at a parts/paint store

This really looks like a bad paint. You can try and see if GM will do anything but a ten year old vehicle they will probably tell you to pound sand. My Equinox is a 2010 and aside from a few Little Rock chips the paint still looks great. Same color too.

Repaint period this has been an issue since the late 90s w acrylic finishes usually white the seal coat or E coat is what you are seeing, poor paint adhesion, only solution is repaint. If the car is outside warranty they (GM) will NOT cover it.once this starts there is no way to stop it other than redo the whole car, I have the same issue on my 97 cavalier and its white as well. White as most people use the word comes in 127 different shades that's why I said a full repaint.

Get an estimate from your local body shop for either a repaint or to repair the affected areas. GM will not do anything for a 10 year old vehicle, sorry! Jim
