Boy, they have the battery located all over the place on the Mini Cooper. If it is not on the passenger side corner next to the fire wall under the hood, then look at the drivers side corner, or it can even be in the floor on the driver side behind the front seat.

Thank you Rowefast, The other day I started the car and drove off, it started sputtering and the check engine light came on. I brought it to the local mechanic and he put it on a computer, took it for a ride and it seemed fine to him. I drove the car home, parked it, and when I started it later in the day, it started sputtering again. Im asking about the battery because Im curious to see if I disconnect the positive terminal what that would do. Should I or shouldnt I.

No do not disconnect the battery. It would make it harder to diagnose if you clear any trouble codes. If that check engine light is on there is a trouble code that would indicate a problem. Try going to an auto parts store to have the vehicle scanned for any trouble codes, they can do this for you, then write any codes down and post them back here.
