Oil Consumption 2013 Outback 44,000 miles

We purchased a 2013 Outback 01/9/19, perfect car fax, low mileage, locally
owned, full loaded...for 17,000.00. It is still under 3 month dealer warranty.
Seemed like Just what we were looking for. Two weeks after purchase, oil
light came on (it was quart low.)  I read about excessive oil use and class
action suit. Took it back to dealer and they will give me $15,000.00 to trade it
in on a newer model. We are considering 2017 Outback, 25K for an additional
$13,500 out the door.
I am literally sick about this, the oil consumption & now paying way too much
on second vehicle which is a lot newer but way over our original budget! Any
advice greatly appreciated. I know I am taking huge chance, but I am thinking
about just walking away and keeping excessive oil consumption 2013 and
crossing my fingers. But ... I don’t know if that is best option. We’re in our 60’s
and drive about 12,000 miles a year. Please take a moment to give me your
thoughts.

The 2017's can use oil too. Consider Mazda!

Any engine can use oil, are we talking excessive oil consumption? I believe that was more of a problem on the 2013 to 2016 model years. Can you show anything on the 2017 or are you just making an assessment. ?

Seekingadvice, jumping four model years to the 2017 is costing less than $3500 per year...

2013 had a class action lawsuit for oil consumption. Bought a new 2013 Outback 2.5 premium. We are now on our 3rd engine and our 2nd CVT! Took a 1,300 mile trip to Florida with around 20,000 miles on it. It burned over a quart of oil going down and then over another quart coming back. Subaru corporate said that it was normal oil consumption! Well, shortly after I found the class action lawsuit against them for oil consumption. Twice the Subaru dealer over filled the oil before the oil consumption test! Why? Not to hard to measure oil. The 3rd engine does use less oil and I hope it lasts. Also, around 100,000 miles a bearing went on the CVT! Those were made as throw-away transmissions with no fluid changes originally recommended in the service books. Fortunately, all covered under warranties even though I had to fight for the new engines. Will not buy another Subaru unless Toyota, which now owns 20%, can turn the quality around.
