Should I worry??

I just bought BMW X5 xdrive35i 2013 from a dealer.
I also got the print out of service report. It all looks
good except one concern. The BMW technician
noted oil filter housing leak in 2016 and he replaced
gaskets and oil filter housing. Do you guys think if
this repair will cause any long term problem or i
should not worry about it as it has been fixed.

If that is the only thing wrong and it was fixed there is nothing to worry about.

agreed, common issue on the BMW's, if it was replaced, consider yourself lucky you didn't have to pay for it.

Not a problem, but I hope you got an extended warranty. BMWs can be troublesome and very expensive to repair. I hope you got a good one.

This is my first BMW. It's still under factory warranty and maintenance warranty for another 9 months. This one has 38k miles on it. So it's advisable to get an extended warranty?? That's another 4000$ for 3 more years.

I would suggest doing some research on the reliability and repair costs of used BMWs and that will help you make a better decision. I personally would not own any BMW without a warranty.

If you have to ask this question then make sure you get the extended repair and maintenance warrantee. I would also suggest you ask around and find a Non-franchise repair center with a good reputation, get to know them, and become friends. I do 95% of my own maintenance. I even take my vehicles back to BMW maybe once a year for a complete inspection. Sometimes they are free. The most I have ever paid is $190. It is worth it. I have a computer but BMW holds all the codes and occasionally the computer needs to be flashed. They will never admit it, but it does and they will find some reason to do work on the vehicle to flash without telling you. I currently own 4 BMW's. One is a 3is with 196,000 miles. It is one step below the full M3 and I drive it the way it wants to be driven. If you can be sure the car never had petroleum oil in it and do change the synthetic every 5,000 miles. They say 400,000 miles are realistic if you keep up with the maintenance. Include changing oil and filters on the transmission every 50,000 miles. I am sorry to say the X3 and X5 are about the worst models I have ever heard of for maintenance. I would also consider setting a mileage limit and trade up. I love my BMW's, but they do need to be maintained.

I have the same leak going on for over a year. I have been told no damage as long as you keep checking oil levels, but I don't think that is true. Can someone answer this question. Thanks

The problem is the newer cars do not have dip sticks to beable to keep a close eye on the oil levels. I think that is one of the reasons why they take 8 quarts of oil. I do not trust the computer to tell me how much oil is in the engine. If you have an oil leak anywhere the best thing is to get it fixed as soon as possible, otherwise you run the risk of loosing too much oil and then you will have problems. As long as you keep oil in the engine, transmission, etc and keep up with filter changes I do not believe you should see any more increased rate of internal damage. If it is worth anything to you it is possible to get a dip stick kit and add it to the stickless engine I will be doing that to the 328XI that I recently bought. Good luck. I hope this helps.
