Pull the fuse for the audio system, wait about a minute, and then put it back in. It will reset the sound system. Quirky fix, but it will work. My 2012 does the same thing. :-(

I have the 2010 Hyundai Elantra and what you need to do is pull the fuse panel off! Secondly turn your car on! Thirdly, pull the fuse out for a minute! Fourthly, put the fuse back and push the power button and it will fix the problem! Don't forget to put the fuse panel back on! You will however have to reset all your radio stations! Hope this helps you!

Ok stupid question, where is the fuse box located for it?

It is on the left side when you open the driver door by the steering wheel!

Thanks for the tip John. I actually pulled the three wire power supply from the fuse board and it did the same thing the fuse pull did. Thanks again!!!

Joe, I just pulled the 3wire harness out which killed the power to the circuit board and it reset the radio and the sound was restored. It is the white, red, blue wire setup.

You can also put a paper clip in the reset hole top left of nav screen.

THANK YOU!!!!!! Started the car, pulled the fuse, waited one minute, turned OFF the car, put the fuse back in, restarted the car. Everything worked great. BTW, it is the 20A Multimedia Fuse on the 2013 Elantra Ltd.

Our 2013 Hyundai Elantra had the same sound problem, screen worked but no sound. Pulling/replugging the red, blue fuse for a couple minutes after killing the motor did resolve the problem. But what an annoyance for a fairly new car, 2 and half years to be exact!

My 2013 Hyundai Elantra's audio shi# the bed two weeks ago soon after I set up 'hands free' blue tooth in accordance with new NH law. I'm going to try the paper clip idea in the am. Thanks to all.

I've kinda got the same deal going on myself with a 2013 Hyundai Accent. The radio has worked for awhile, but recently, the radio hasn't worked. No sound at all from my Sirius/XM, AM/FM, or CD. Odd thing is, if my door is opened (driver side), it'll work until the door is closed again. Seems to happen after extreme weather (had a HEAVY downpour yesterday that forced me to drive on some waterlogged streets, and the issue started not long thereafter).

Used the paperclip to push the reset button in the tiny hole upper left above the nav screen with the car off. Worked perfectly for my 2013 Sonata Sport. Wiped all the radio stations, satellite stations and sound settings, but kept my phone connection.

Worked great! It is right in the upper left hand corner. Looks more like a button not a hole. I pushed it in and held had a little trouble getting the screen back on but pushed a couple of buttons and there was the sound :) Lost all my saved stations but I will take that over no sound!

Thanks everybody for all your answers. I bought the new Elantra GL 2010 and after just 1 year, my radio got waves (plastic was burned) because of the sun on the board during summer!! My car dearler changed it twice. Since that, my radio stopped after 2 cds (too hot). Now, no more radio.. it does'nt work even if I just used the radio, not CD.... Make me angry grrrr. I'll try your fuse and paper clip tricks but I can't believe we have to do it for all of us. And of course, they don't want to fix it again, it's no more on warranty. Can we claim from Hyundai for all of us??? It's very ridiculous....

I don't have navigation screen, I do have a 2013, but no button. what's weird about my radio it goes off when I put on the brake, when reboots, sometime just going down the road. will it hurt anything by unplugging the red, white and blue plug and plugging it in, does car need to be running? someone said something about taking positive lead off battery and reputing it on, BUT battery is too complicated :(

P.S. Most of you say that when you reset with the paperclip the system automatically comes back on. Mine doesn't. The screen goes black and nothing happens after that. If I want the system to come on again I have to turn it on manually with the power button.

The paper clip trip worked to restore radio/navigation sound almost immediately. I'll keep it in my 2013 Hyundai Elantra. Was using the navigation system one day, sound went dead, had to read the prompts on the screen. Dealer did offer to help over the phone but there was going to be a charge of $109 to bring it in.

Paper clip reset for my 2013 Elantra Limited. This was after the dealership charged me for troubleshooting and determined that there was an internal failure of the radio/navigation unit. They quoted me $705 to replace the unit, yet they did not try nor seem to know about the reset button. Thank you all for saving me $705 more dollars.

I have a 2011 Elantra and surprisingly mine just stopped working as well. I have tried everything. I know this has been posted on many sites and I have tried everything. Please note that I took my car in for a 75k checkup, 2 recalls and had to have the intake manifold replaced. Drove it off the dealership lot and it would not work. They tried and said I need whole new radio. It is only the audio that does not work. The Navigation system works without sound, my bluetooth works and connects without sound, and the radio stations can be cruised but no sound. Mind you what I find perplexing is that through each step I did below nothing was actually lost - no preset stations lost and the clock never reset either nor did i lose any of my Navigation data. What else can I do? What is a good place to look at how the actual Radio/Navigation system work so I can try maybe replacing parts that are connected to audio? Or is something like this is more Software related and thus why it is not resetting anything? I can not afford the $650+ dollars the dealership wants to charge me to replace the radio so I will be doing this myself. Any tips and help would be great. 1. Use a pen to push the tiny reset button to the left of CD player. 2. With the car off, pulled the memory fuse, waited a few minutes, reinserted. Turned the car back on. 3. With the car off, pulled the two multimedia fuses, waited a few minutes, reinserted. Turned the car back on. 4. With the car off, unplugged the three-wire harness (red/white/blue), waited a few minutes, reinserted. Turned the car back on. 5. With Car on pulled the multimedia fuses, waited a few minutes. Shut the car off and turned back on. 6. Removed the negative connection to the battery and waited about an hour before reconnecting and turned the car back on. 7. removed the negative connection to the battery, removed the positive connection to battery, removed both multimedia fuses. Waited about an hour. While friend held the reset button I connected the positive connection to batter, then negative battery connection, then reinserted fuses and then started the car.

The reset button on the radio is the best thing to try first. I turned on the car, clicked the reset for 3 seconds. When i was done the radio was off. I hit the center power button and the sound was back on.

This is so helpful. Not sure why, but my 2013 Elantra GT doesn't seem to have the reset button. Pulling the red/white/blue three wire fuse worked like a charm. The radio wouldn't turn off, the volume couldn't be adjusted and display panel was lit, but blank. Now I don't have to worry that my radio will drain the battery while I'm in my out-of-town meeting....haha.

10

The left reset button worked like a charm.....didn't have a paper clip so I used my earring. Tip for those who wear earrings they work just as well as the paper clip. Lol

My big question is WHY? I read all of the replies (need to try the reset button or waiting a minute) but what causes this annoying problem?

All these cars come with sirus XM that satellite option is interfering with the radio. On the back window there is also an antenna printed on the glass. So do not use Windex= you must use carnuba wax! otherwise you'll peel off your antenna components on the glass. if it's really freezing out run your back window defrost. There are three fuses for the "audio" that you need to pull on a 2011 with the car running and then leave them out for 3 minutes. Once you have them plugged back in then power on the radio. There is a tiny little button left side of the label "CD" where you stick your disc in on the 2011 that you push in w/paperclip for 5 seconds and it erases every setting on your radio as well. as a very last resort you can have the car running and pull the red white and blue wire module at the bottom of the fuse box panel by pushing down on the middle tab on top of the module and leave it unplugged for an hour of course shutting the car off once it is pulled out.

Hi, I have a 2013 hundai Elantra,, I tried the reset button for audio many times with ball pen, it works fine for that time. Later again the audio seems to go off.. these days the paper clip or pen doesn't work too. The audio works fine some times, sometimes it doesn't. Hundia says my warranty is not covered as music system warranty is only 3 years..what can I do now, how much cost am I looking at if I need to fix it?

50

Hi Deepika, I own a 2012 Elantra and my radio worked with resetting it with a ball point pen. It hasn't bailed on me yet but if you are still having problems with it, I'd say get it looked at at the dealer. Good luck and I hope it works for you.

40

I'm having exactly the same issues with my radio/cd/media and bluetooth system. It will work sporadically every now and again, but for the majority - I have NO SOUND which is extremely frustrating. All of the panels light up and work and you can see cd's playing etc... but just NO SOUND. I have tried to insert a paper clip into the hole on my panel but it does nothing. Doesn't turn off, doesn't even register I am doing anything. So, not sure if I'm doing it incorrectly. I have also tried pulling out the main fuse with the three red, white and blue wires while the car is on. It instantly shut off my engine which made me panic and I plugged them back in and the car started fine. That reset my radio, but still NO SOUND. I can't pull out the fuses as they are tightly clamped in and even the fuse puller won't grab them. My Hyundai dealer said it needs replacing and will cost $450++ This seems to be a massive issue with these models, so why aren't Hyundai taking responsibility for a faulty product? FYI I am in Australia... any other suggestions would be welcome.

It's an OEM for speakers & radio system & it seems to let SIRIUS interfere with antenna system which is incorporated with your back window defroster and if it's really cold weather try turning your defroster on in the back window or cleaning it with warm water & microfiber cloth carefully.

10

I pulled the fuse and the radio worked for one start/stop cycle. Used the reset paper clip procedure and all is good now.

My question is...obviously there is a defect with these cars..why aren't they doing recalls or why isn't it covered under their so called bumper to bumper warranty?!! I have a 2017 Hyundai Elantra limited and the screen goes black, music comes on and off and non of the touch screen buttons work!!

I am wanting to buy a 2015 Hyundai Elantra what do it check to see if everything works good

Paper clip worked on my 2019 Elantra to get AM sound working again!

90

This is crazy. It seems we have a solid case for a class action suit for this obvious problem and Hyundai does not want to deal with it. Anybody agree? Did it all on my 2010 but still nothing. Aint right

Ok, so here is a question... since we've all had this problem. Mine will blink off, for like 5 seconds, come back, then randomly whenever it wants to. Some days it doesn't happen, then the next it's like every 5 seconds. I have pulled the fuse, and replaced the fuse... and there is no reset button.

Yep, I got a 2007 Elantra . Which the radios in the 2007-2010 model Elantra’s are the same and have no reset button. Just an oval light. If pulling the fuse does not work, pull the radio and use the 2007 radio wiring diagram to find the hot wire on the harness. Use a voltmeter on DC voltage. If you get 12v DC from hot to ground then you have a bad radio. This is what I just did today on mine. Then I went to the Junkyard and got one out of a 2009 Elantra for $26 . Plugged it right in and problem solved. Cheaper than the dealership.

10

The audio on my 2011 Elantra limited went out. I tried the reset on the panel (near the cd player), pulling fuses and harnesses and still nothing. Before I lost audio there was VERY loud crackling sounds coming from the speakers even when the radio was turned off. Cold I have a bad amplifier???
