Battery/charging system

My stratus started up this morning and I drove 15 miles and had no problems
ex. battery light on etc. my car drove just fine. When I got to my destination I
turned my car off went to start it back up 15-20 minutes later and nothing!
Car wouldn't even turn over. Looked at battery and the cables and posts are
corroded. How do I disconnect battery safely and clean posts and cables?
