Subaru 2012 outback uneven brake pad wear

Asked by Lana Nov 26, 2019 at 12:57 PM about the 2012 Subaru Outback 2.5i

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The rear brake were replaced (pads, rotors and calipers) 10k mi ago, second
time this year!. Only the inner pads are worn completely, while the outer ones
look brand new (so do the front brakes, which have way more miles). Calipers
are retracting fine and guiding pins move easily.
Anyone had that issue and found a fix other than replacing pads with each oil
change?

Who is doing the repairs? Dealer or self service if it is a dealer ask them to fix it or explain what is not working . A closer examination of the break parts will be needed.

A local mechanic is doing the work, but I've seen all the parts of the brake system slide with ease (caliper piston, pins and pads in brackets) as they should. Thanks for the answers. Replacing pads, rotors and the brake fluid hoses now and will monitor it closely in the future

I have the same car and have owned it since new. Currently has 165,000 miles on it. Rear brakes wear out quickly - I chalk it up to our hilly terrain and dirt roads. The rear brakes seem to be constantly loaded with dirt and grime. I do the brakes myself (on 3 cars) and everything moves fine. For some reason the subaru rears wear out every 15,000 miles or so. Do my best to hose them out when its real muddy.

I have the exact same problem. I own a Subaru Outback 2012. I'm living up a 15 km dirt road and I'm changing my breaks every 6 months or so. I read that the brake gap is wider than other cars and leads to this specific problem.

I have the same problem and the rotors get scarred. What are the original OEM Subaru pad material: Organic, metallic or ceramic? Thinking of installing ceramic to clean the rotors
