Is my fan motor burnt out?

This morning was very cold. I started my 2012 f150 and smelled burning wires
and then a small amount of smoke coming out of the defrost vent. Shut of
immediately thinking the fan motor was seized. started up again after sitting in
the sun all day and the fan sounded bad and then stopped altogether. What
should I do?

You need to remove the fan and or dash to inspect the wiring. Sounds like a short or the wiring was compromised. I wouldn't just install a new fan, but have the wiring and fuses checked, it could be corrosion as well. A decent mechanic can usually find the problem.
