Did you check the fuse for the radio in the fuse panel? Should also be one in the back of the radio.

My mom is having the exact same problem with her Dakota. Her's is a 2001 (its in my garage) and when you first start the truck up, there will be no radio. Sometimes it takes forever to turn on, and sometimes it only takes a few minutes.
