HELP!!! 2012 Kia Soul! Will Not Start

Asked by LaceyChonies Jan 22, 2017 at 03:07 PM about the 2012 Kia Soul !

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Almost 2 months ago my Kia Soul wouldn't
start. It would crank but wouldn't start. I tried
jumping it, nothing. I replaced the battery,
nothing. A neighbor sprayed starter fluid into
something under the hood and it would start
briefly (like 1-2 seconds) then stall.  Because
I don't have money to have it towed and
fixed, I would spend hours trying to Google
and Youtube and read blogs to try and figure
it out myself. 3 weeks go by, still only
cranking w/o starting. Last week I go down
to try my luck again and it starts right up. It
ran fine for about a week then I go to leave
one day and nothing. Not even cranking. I
think maybe the key fob battery is dead so I
put the key in the slot thing in the glove box
and try again. Nothing.  No dash lights or
radio. The headlights and dome lights work
but no radio or dash. I had someone come
and hook up one of those car diagnostic
things to it and he said he couldn't get a
reading. He said the "brain" may need to be
reset. I spoke to another mechanic who said
to remove the battery cables and touch the
red with the black, that may reset it. But still
nothing. (Right before all this happened I
replaced a headlight that still goes in and
out )

Call around locate a real vehicle technician pay $100 and no more guessing this can be diagnosed in 15 minutes with knowledge and the right equipment. 1. Check all connections at the battery and down stream... 2. Check fuel pressure at the fuel rail in PSI. 3. Finally scan for codes at DTC / OBDII connector..IF the code reader won't power up test pin 16 (bottom right) in the connector for 12.6vdc simply.

Hi i had the same freaking problem with my kia but my radio dome and stop light went bonkers "after i changed my batteries" the dealer said i should have my fuse box replaced 15k pesos or have the elec. Cables change.... what? I preserver waited googled and asked around mechanics but to no avail. One day my aircon broke down and called my tech.. Lo and behold he said the relays are busted and placed at the wrong socket.. My advise to you maam. Have your relays checked pls. Since that was my 100 pesos problem which is now fixed thanks to my aircon tech. Damn those kia dealers. With all their tech bullshits and apparatus couldnt solve the problem and i had to shelve out 25k for a 100 peso relay I hope this helps you.. Goodluck

Definitely not trying to scare you, but maybe the spot ur parking in is inhabited by some entity that's pissed off that ur in their space. Hopefully by now, you no longer have the same Kia that gave you these problems, do you?
